Pick up a can of VELO and you will see a row of dots on the lid. We sell more VELO than almost any other brand, and "which dots should I get?" is still one of the questions we are asked most. It does not help that the dot system is less tidy than it looks: one dot level can mean two different strengths, and even people in the trade get caught out.
The short answer: VELO runs from 1 dot (4mg per pouch) up to 6 dots (17mg per pouch). Three dots is the odd one out, because it can be either 8mg or 10mg depending on the flavour. Use the dots to narrow it down, then read the mg printed on the can.
VELO strength chart (UK)
| Dots | Nicotine per pouch | VELO range | Format |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 dot | 4mg | Mellow | Mini |
| 2 dots | 6mg | Mellow / Original | Mini and Slim |
| 3 dots | 8mg or 10mg | Original | Slim (a few Minis) |
| 4 dots | 11mg | Original / Intense | Slim |
| 5 dots | 14mg | Intense | Slim |
| 6 dots | 17mg | Intense | Slim |
The dots are a rough scale, not a precise one. The mg figure on the can is the number that matters.
How the VELO dot system works
Every VELO can carries two pieces of information: a dot count from one to six, and a nicotine figure in milligrams per pouch. The dots are there to give you an at a glance idea of where a pouch sits in the range. More filled dots, more nicotine.
VELO also sorts its pouches into three named tiers, which you will see on its own website:
- Mellow (4 to 6mg): for people new to pouches. Mini format.
- Original (6 to 11mg): the everyday range for regular users. Slim format.
- Intense (8 to 17mg): for experienced users who want a stronger hit. Slim format.
Notice that the tiers overlap. That is deliberate on VELO's part, and it is the first reason the dots confuse people.
Why 3 dots is not one strength
Here is the bit that catches everyone out, us included. A VELO can with three dots contains either 8mg or 10mg per pouch, depending on the flavour.
On VELO's current UK line up, the 8mg three dot pouches are Bright Spearmint, Purple Grape, Blueberry Ice, Smooth Papaya and Lime Flame. The 10mg three dot pouches include Crispy Peppermint, Mango Ice, Minty Lemon, Peach Ice, Cherry Ice, Strawberry Ice, Tropical Ice, Tropical Mango, Mango Flame and Ruby Berry.
That is a 25% difference in nicotine between two cans that look identical from the dots alone. If you have switched flavour at the same dot level and found it noticeably stronger or milder, this is why.
A note on 4 dots
Four dot VELO is listed as 11mg on VELO's own UK site, but you will see it written as 10.9mg on some retailer sites and older packaging. Same product, different rounding. Either way it sits between the 10mg three dot and the 14mg five dot.
VELO strengths dot by dot
1 dot (4mg)
The gentlest VELO, and Mini only. A sensible place to start if you have never used a nicotine pouch, or if you are stepping down. VELO makes it in Bright Spearmint, Tangy Lime, Purple Grape and Ruby Berry.
2 dots (6mg)

VELO Tropical Mango #2
2 dots, 6mg per pouch. Mandarin, passion fruit and mango in a gentle everyday strength.
The most common "first proper pouch". Available in Mini and Slim, and comparable to a low to medium strength from most other brands. Our two dot options include Green Spearmint #2, Tropical Mango #2 and Blushy Berry #2, plus Minis such as Wintery Watermelon #2 and Strawberry Ice #2.
3 dots (8mg or 10mg)

VELO Crispy Peppermint #3
3 dots, 10mg per pouch. The classic VELO mint, crisp peppermint with a cooling finish.
VELO's biggest range and our best selling dot level. Most of the fruit and mint flavours live here, so remember the 8mg and 10mg split above. Our three dot range includes Crispy Peppermint #3, Bright Peppermint #3, Bright Spearmint #3, Purple Grape #3, Mango Ice #3, Peach Ice #3, Cherry Ice #3, Blueberry Ice #3, Tropical Ice #3, Smooth Papaya #3, Minty Lemon #3, Coconut Lime #3, Guava Jalapeño #3, Guava Passionfruit #3, Mango Flame #3, Groovy Grape #3, Icy Cherry #3 and Dark Blackcurrant #3. The newer VELO Shift line (Cool Peppermint, Hot Spearmint, Hot Grape, Hot Peach and Hot Dragon Fruit) is also a three dot pouch.
4 dots (11mg)
A step up for regular users, with fewer flavours and a mint lean. We stock Mighty Peppermint #4, Peppermint Storm #4 and Orange Spark #4.
5 dots (14mg)
Firmly in strong territory. We stock Mighty Peppermint #5 and Mango Flame #5.
6 dots (17mg)

VELO Peppermint Storm #6
6 dots, 17mg per pouch. The strongest VELO in the UK, a frosty tsunami of peppermint.
The strongest VELO sold in the UK. It is a big hit and not the place to start. Options include Freezing Peppermint #6, Peppermint Storm #6, Icy Berries #6, Wintery Watermelon #6 and Purple Grape #6.
ZERO (0mg)

VELO Tropical Mango ZERO
0mg. Same flavour and feel, no nicotine, and our second best seller of 2026.
VELO also makes nicotine free versions of several flavours: Bright Peppermint ZERO, Purple Grape ZERO, Tropical Mango ZERO and Wintery Watermelon ZERO. Same flavour and feel, no nicotine, and Tropical Mango ZERO was one of our best sellers of 2026.
Mini vs Slim: does the format change the strength?
Not directly. The mg figure is per pouch, so a 6mg Mini and a 6mg Slim deliver the same amount of nicotine. The Mini is physically smaller and sits more discreetly under the lip, and in the UK the very lowest strength, 4mg at 1 dot, is Mini only.
Which VELO strength should you choose?
There is no single right answer, but this is how we steer customers:
- Never used a pouch before? Start at 1 or 2 dots (4 to 6mg). Going up is easy. Going down after a rough first experience is harder.
- Switching from cigarettes? Most people settle at 2 or 3 dots (6 to 10mg). Heavier smokers often start at 3 dots, 10mg.
- Switching from vaping? It depends on your e-liquid. If you were on 10 to 20mg nicotine salts, 3 dots (8 to 10mg) is a reasonable match. If you were on 3 to 6mg freebase, try 2 dots.
- Already using another brand? Match the mg, not the name. "Strong" on one brand can be "Regular" on another. Our guide to nicotine pouch strengths compares brands side by side.
- Want the strongest? 6 dots at 17mg. But if you are asking, 5 dots (14mg) is usually the better place to start.
How VELO compares with ZYN
VELO's 17mg top end sits above ZYN's strongest UK pouches, and at the everyday end VELO 3 dots (8 to 10mg) lines up with ZYN's mid strengths. Neither brand plays in the extreme league; that is Killa, Pablo and Siberia territory. We compare the two big names properly in ZYN vs VELO.
